Police chase theft suspects through two counties

A Reading man was arrested Saturday following a two-county chase, South Whitehall Township police say.

Police say at approximately 2:30 a.m. Sept. 14, officers saw a vehicle leaving the Bennett Infinity car dealership parking lot, 4800 Tilghman St., South Whitehall.

Police say several tires were reportedly seen inside of the vehicle and officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

The driver allegedly refused to yield for the marked police cruiser and attempted to evade the officer by driving at a high rate of speed and turning off the vehicle's lights.

Additional officers were requested for assistance and a pursuit ensued. Police allege the occupants of the vehicle threw tires with rims from the vehicle as the pursuit continued west through Lehigh County and into Berks County.

The vehicle crashed while attempting to elude responding police officers and Salvador Gallo-Navarro, of 636 N. 13 St., Reading, was taken into custody at the scene of the crash, police say.

Navarro was charged with theft, criminal conspiracy to commit theft, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief.

The total value of the tires and rims is $10,950. Damage to vehicles at the car dealership is estimated to be $8,025, police say.

The second occupant of the vehicle is being sought.
