Liberty is loaded with playmakers

After a dominating 48-7 victory last Friday night against Northampton, Parkland looks to continue the high level of play heading into a showdown at Liberty on Friday.

The Trojans lit up the scoreboard and played well on both sides of the ball for their two wins, both at home, but are looking for consistency after being shutout two weeks ago at Easton.

"This will be a true test to see if we're going in the right direction," said head coach Jim Morgans. "Defensively we've played well. Offensively is where I think we've made the most strides."

Last year, Parkland (2-1 overall, 1-1 LVC) defeated the Hurricanes 28-0, but this is a different year and a different Liberty team. The Hurricanes (2-1 overall, 1-1 LVC) are coming off a 35-18 win at Nazareth (2-1 overall, 1-1 LVC).

Parkland will have some momentum after last week's rout of the Kids.

"It's real good to make a comeback," said Jim Morgans. "They can't get a false sense of themselves, but it's good to play like we did [against Northampton] after how we played [against Easton]."

Liberty is a better team this year, and that showed with their win last week. Besides having to contain Syracuse commit, receiver KJ Williams, the Trojans will need to be weary of the running game.

Ryan Lawrence rushed for 114 yards, and Darius Jones ran for 82 yards and a touchdown at Nazareth.

The Parkland defense has been stout in the first three games, and will need to be strong again this week. The Trojans are looking to establish Devante Cross as their starting quarterback. To keep some pressure off the sophomore, running backs Eli Redmond and Kareem Williams need to continue their dominant play of late.

Redmond scored three times last weekend, and Williams tallied 102 yards rushing and a score.

"We have two real good running backs," added Morgans. "Devante can run well himself. I'm a guy that likes to run the ball, that's football."
