Hanover Township building to get new landscaping
The front of the Hanover Township municipal building will soon take on a slightly different look.
Kevin Klase of Klase Landscape Contractors, New Tripoli, appeared at the Sept. 4 Hanover Township Supervisors meeting to present his proposal for landscaping work to be done on the outside perimeter of the building.
Klase's two proposals include removing all planting, adding topsoil, doing a proper grade and applying sod or saving what planting and soil can be saved. The first proposal would cost the township $22,650.
"I designed this so it's not overplanted," Klase said.
Councilman William Kovacs Sr. asked Klase if applying stone is more cost-effective than mulch.
Stone, Klase said, must be replaced every four to six years, while mulch is replaced every two to three years.
"For me, it's whatever someone wants," he said.
Klase said stone--which would cost an additional $1,000--would result in a cost savings for the township.
"It's conceivable the extra $1,000 will be worth it," Kovacs commented.
The council unanimously voted to grant a contract to Klase to put in new plants, apply sod and concrete.
In other business, township Manager Sandra Pudliner informed supervisors a house on Dauphin Street that recently sustained fire damage may be up for sale.
Although the owners are receptive to selling the property, Pudliner questioned the utility of the township purchasing it.
"I don't see the value we would get for that ... what we would use it for," she said.
Councilman Bruce Paulus said if the owner receives the insurance proceeds from the fire, the township could have the property assessed at its proper value.
"No one says you have to rebuild [the house]," Supervisor Michael Woolley said.
The supervisors instructed Pudliner to further research the property to see if it would be a good investment for the township.
Also during the meeting, council Chairman Frank Dreisbach reported the playgrounds, swings and other children's recreational items have been installed at Chestnut Grove Park.
The supervisors also granted unanimous approval to township resident Jane Burcaw to extend a Canal Park wedding party for her daughter Oct. 10 until 9 p.m.
