LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Girls week up and down

The Northampton girls varsity volleyball team served up some exciting contests this week.

After one nonconference game and two conference matchups, the girls maintained a 3-4 record overall and eventually picked up their first league win to improve to 1-4.

In their first game of the week against Pocono Mountain East at home on Sept. 10, Northampton dominated the court and took the win in three matches with scores of 25-8, 25-9, 25-16.

In that contest Anona Bauman had six aces and Alex Beavan added five aces.

In Northampton's second home contest Emmaus swept the Kids in three with scores of 25-8, 25-15, 25-15. The conference loss against Emmaus made the Northampton team hungry for another chance at a division win; a chance they would have the next day as the team faced off against 4-2 Nazareth.

Northampton battled through four matches in a home game against Nazareth at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14. Nazareth took the first match at 25-22 but Northampton rebounded with a 25-22 win in the second. Taking the court for the third match, Northampton landed only 16 points. Nazareth would get the best of them with another 25-22 victory.

This week, Northampton prepares for three games in row.

The first came against Dieruff on Tuesday night and the Kids prevailed 25-20, 25-18 and 25-21 on the road. Katie Shumanis had nine digs and Sarah Faust added seven kills to lead the way.

The girls are home to meet Catasauqua on Sept. 18 and then Bethlehem Catholic on Sept. 19.
