Blanche P. Balliet, 102, of Slatedale, died Sept. 12, 2013, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
She was the widow of Roy Balliet who died in 1960.
Born Nov. 2, 1910, in East Greenville, she was a daughter of the late William and Emma (Seyfarth) Thompson.
A 1928 graduate of Palmerton High School, she later graduated from Northeastern Hospital School of Nursing, Philadelphia, where she became an R.N., then later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania.
She worked as a private duty nurse and was an instructor of nursing for the former Allentown General Hospital School of Nursing.
A school nurse for 14 years in the Catasauqua School District, she retired in 1976.
She was a member of Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, Slatington, Slatedale Fire Company, state and local associations of school retirees.
She loved to pull weeds in her flower beds, hiking, hunting for more than 70 years.
She spent much of her spring and fall seasons hunting and at her cabin in Potter County.
Her survivors include a son, Linn of Slatedale; daughter Marie Dietrich of Kempton; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-granddaughter; niece and nephews.
