Becahi next up for Kids
Just when Northampton thought they had one week on the schedule to lighten the load, Bethlehem Catholic comes rolling into town with momentum.
The K-Kids dropped to 0-3 on the season following a 48-7 loss to Parkland last week. The Kids have faced the toughest three week gauntlet to start the season and it will continue this week at home (Nazareth) against Becahi (2-1).
The Golden Hawks earned more respect in one loss than in two wins, clawing their way to a 49-35 defeat against locally top ranked Easton (3-0) last week as they head into this week's encounter.
The difficult start for the Kids isn't something that provides much solitude for a team that struggled to get their offense going last week against a stout Parkland program.
Quarterback Nick Cook could only muster 38 yards through the air, while the Kids compiled 105 yards on the ground, compared to Parkland's 331 yards, as they built a 35-0 halftime lead en route to a quick second half.
Brosky knew it was going to be a struggle against Parkland and understood that he would see a vengeful Trojan squad coming off a shutout loss to Easton the week prior.
"Yes they are a very good team," said Brosky of Parkland. "I was encouraged because our kids did not quit."
Now the Kids will be put on the spotlight in a contest that doesn't have them entering as massive underdogs.
The problem is that Becahi has been one of the surprise teams this year, carving out wins over Pocono Mountain West and Emmaus before getting upended by Easton last week.
The Hawks have averaged 34 points a game so far this season and have done it different ways, every week.
They had three defensive scores in week one, a special teams touchdown against Emmaus, as well as a three touchdown performance from running back Michael McDaniel, followed by last week's three TD contest by wide receiver Freddie Simmons.
Simmons seemed to have his breakout game last week and has some of the same big play elements that Northampton had a year ago with Kyle George at wideout.
"He does [remind me of Kyle]," Brosky said of Simmons. "He is a playmaker with great speed and breakaway ability and Becahi is an improved team from last season and will be a good challenge for our kids."
The problem for Northampton this year is that they've had challenges every week and will continue to do so in the LVC.
This week should be the real test to see if the Kids have learned anything from the struggles they've endured so far this season, or if the trend will continue.
"I feel our kids responded well after three very good opponents," said Brosky. "We will have to see if we benefitted from such a tough start or not."
