LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Volleyball tops NHS

It's still thwack city for the Whitehall girls volleyball team.

They won their second game of the season, defeating Northampton Area High School in four games, 25-15, 22-25, 25-19, 25-15.

They've been hot out of the gate, confirming head coach Robert Gardner's prediction that they'll be really good.

Even with this small sample size, the Zephs have demonstrated that they may be one of the big surprises in the LVC. They played a spirited game against Freedom High School to open the season, then followed that up with a gritty performance against the Kids.

Overcoming adversity is always a sign of a good team, and the Zephs weathered a loss to the Kids in game three. After shaking off that six-point loss to their division foes, they roared back with a 25-15 undressing, taking the game and the series from the Kids. Their ability to win close games will boost their confidence as the season progresses.

In the win over Northampton, Olivia Bobyak continued to dominate at the net. She had eight kills and 11 blocks. Additionally, Rebecca Lutterschmidt was rocketing balls off the hardwood, finishing with 12 kills. Also having a solid game was Anna Gallina who registered eight blocks, while libero Kori Koehler had 17 digs.
