Local girls compete in national meet

Several local gymnasts were among those who brought home medals from the 2013 State Games of America.

Force Sports Academy (formally Lehigh Valley Sports Academy) was well represented with 31 athletes in the event of gymnastics that took place Aug. 2-4 in Hershey.

In Level 6 competition, which took place Friday, Cailey Spanitiz of Walnutport took bronze on vault, bars, floor and all-around. Kylie Gillard of Walnutport took silver on vault.

Montana Muller of Catasaqua was the only Force Academy representative for Level 7.

She took gold for bars, beam, floor and all-around. She missed first place on vault by a mere 0.175.

In Level 8, Caroline Marzano of Northampton took first place on floor with a score of 9.575 and second places for beam (9.150) and all-around (36.675).

Dariah Csuvay of Whitehall won second place for bars and third on vault, beam and floor.

Megan Keefe of Northampton took first place on vault (9.10) and first place for all-around. She was also awarded silver medals for bars and floor in her age division.

Xcel competitors (formally known as Pre Optionals) had their competition Saturday. These sessions are grouped into Novice, Intermediate and Advanced.

In the novice group, Alexis Barrall of Northampton competed for the first time.

Jessica Kroboth of Whitehall took second on vault with a 9.2 in the senior Novice division.

The meet concluded on Sunday with Level 4 and 5 gymnasts. In Level 4, Mollie Ruch of Bath placed first in all-around (36.65) and took silver metals for bars (9.00), beam (9.45) and floor (9.2).

Kristen Saylor of Coplay snatched a bronze medal on bars.

Kayla Johnson of Northampton earned a silver for vault (9.35) and beam (9.45) and bronze for Bars (9.00), and all-around (36.80).

Laura Hurlock of Northampton and Lauren Schuch of Northampton also had strong performances for their Force team.

Finishing the final session was the Level 5 girls for Force on Sunday evening. Allison Gerancher of Whitehall took gold medals for beam (9.625) and floor (9.275). She also earned second place for all-around (36.650) and third place on vault (8.85).

Kylie Hammersmith of Northampton took a silver medal on vault (9.05). Gwen Houser of Coplay also had an excellent performance.

The state games are held every other year. The next game will be held in 2015 in Lincoln, Neb.
