Whitehall Township continues to manage the West Catasauqua Playground operations.

The township has decided to take on management duties until residents from the neighborhood step up and form a board of directors, elect officers and meet monthly to maintain and run the playground association.

Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. said two residents living in West Catasauqua have agreed to serve on the board of directors. Hozza added he is looking for more people willing to serve on the playground's board.

The rentals and the cleaning of the West Catasauqua Playground community building are handled by MaryAnn Boettger. Rents are paid to the township. Hozza said all rental money goes into the township-controlled West Catasauqua account.

William Sharkazy continues maintaining the fields. Sharkazy is paid by the township from an annual grass cutting stipend that would have gone to the park.

All expenses are being paid from the township's park funds account. Regarding capital improvements, replacement of the community center floor is planned for January along with roof repairs. There was no change in field usage for St. Elizabeth and Tri Boro.

The township took over the park and playground after the West Catasauqua Playground Association failed to abide by township ordinances regarding submission of financial statements and proof of insurance. Hozza said other associations in the township complied.

At a meeting April 3, when financial forms submitted did not include bank statements, the park president turned over the keys to township officials.
