Kids look to avoid 0-2 start

If an opening season loss to Stroudsburg put Northampton behind the eight ball, what will happen in week two with a talented Nazareth team on the horizon?

Following last week's disappointing and surprising 49-26 home loss to Stroudsburg, the K-Kids try to regroup as they technically host Nazareth this Friday night.

Obviously, with Nazareth playing on their home turf, it's just like another home game for the Blue Eagles, who waxed Pleasant Valley last week 31-9.

Stroudsburg scored two special teams touchdowns last week off a blocked punt and an 88-yard kickoff return from Justin Pierre, who also opened the scoring with a 46-yard TD reception from quarterback Mike Nikorak in the first quarter.

Head coach Jeff Brosky didn't want to lament on the opening loss, opting to move forward with the focus on Nazareth.

"Yes, I was disappointed with the loss, but give Stroudsburg credit," Brosky said. "They did what they had to to secure the win. Our special teams did not play well and as we all know, that is an important part of the game."

And to say that this week isn't an important game is an understatement. Falling into an 0-2 hole would be the worst thing the Kids need to start the season, but they face an uphill climb this week against Nazareth.

The Blue Eagles had seven different receivers catch the ball last week from quarterback Spencer King, who went 11-of-17 for 263 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw two interceptions as well.

Running back Jordan Gray rushed for 98 yards and two scores, along with a 60 yard TD reception, while Maxwell Wasilewski caught four balls for 69 yards and a score.

With the Kids giving up 49 points on opening night, it's not a good scenario heading into a matchup with Rob Melosky's offensive schemes.

"We will address the mistakes we made last week and hopefully not make those same mistakes against a good Nazareth team," Brosky said. "I don't want to place any pressure on our kids at this point but we need a win for the program to get us started. A win over Nazareth would be a boost for us. "
