John R. Kraynik

John R. Kraynik, 87, of Kempton, died Aug. 30, 2013, in Valley Manor Nursing Center, Coopersburg.

He and his wife Audrey A. (Rothrock) Kraynik were married 60 years last November.

Born in Stiles, he was a son of the late Andrew and Anna (Martinjack) Kraynik.

A 1944 graduate of Whitehall High School, he was captain of the basketball team and a star baseball player.

That same year, he was named Athlete of the Year at Whitehall.

He was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies North Atlantic League, and was assigned to Carbondale.

All his life, he played basketball and baseball around the Lehigh Valley and was a coach of the St. John's Basketball League, Allentown.

He also was a champion bowler.

He honorably and faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of VFW Post 2124.

He was a stock expeditor at Mack Trucks Inc., where he worked for 40 years, he also was chief union steward and alternate committeeman for Union 677.

He was a member of Ebenezer Church, New Tripoli.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Cynthia, wife of Ted Swartz of Bethlehem; brother Edward and wife, Terry, of Slatington; grandchildren Amy Jo, wife of Michael Korpics, and Maggie Ann Swartz; and great-grandchildren Teddy, Jessie, Samantha and John.

He was predeceased by brothers, Andrew and Joseph, and sisters, Anna Wescoe and Helen Leeser

His services will be private.
