CDBG funding approved
The Borough of Northampton has been granted approval by Northampton County for projects on Laubach Avenue.
The money will come from the borough's 2013 subsidy from Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) disbursements.
"The county has given tentative approval to our 2013 CDBG application," borough Manager Gene Zarayko advised council during last Thursday's meeting. "They [county] will be requesting $144,000 for the Borough of Northampton for barrier access removal on Laubach Avenue. There will also be a macadam pathway from Laubach Avenue parallel to Smith Street that will take you to the municipal park."
In another matter, Councilman Anthony Lopsonzski Jr. presented a report on the council's building, land and recreation committee.
He said the borough is changing companies for roofing repairs to borough facilities. Repairs had been made to the pool and rec center roofs but problems continued, leading to the change.
As a result, the borough hired Able Roofing, the company that previously put the new roof on the community center. Able Roofing will make repairs to the roofs at the pool and recreation center.
The 2013 summer swimming season at the municipal pool is over, with the final day having been Saturday. It appears that the receipts were down slightly, Zarayko reported.
A financial report on pool receipts and expenses will be provided later.
A Dip-N-Dance held at the Laubach Avenue pool was well attended.
Also at the meeting, council disussed the farmers market.
"The good produce and baked goods are a big hit with many local residents," Councilman Robert Coleman said. The open air Northampton Farmers Market will remain open 3-7 p.m. Tuesdays until sometime in October.
Now that summer is coming to a close, council will resume its twice a month meeting schedules. The meetings will be held the first and third Thursdays, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
