Barry C. Hamm

Barry C. Hamm, 70, of Orefield, died Sept. 2, 2013, at his home.

He and his wife Shirley M. (Smith) Hamm celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last Dec. 8.

Born Oct. 21, 1942, in Palmerton, he was the son of Mildred E. (Campbell) Moyer of Trachsville and the late Willard N. Hamm.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during a peacetime era.

He owned and operated the former Hamm's Orefield Auto Parts and Service Inc., Orefield, for 40 years before retiring in 2004.

Having a passion for racing, he formerly owned the No. 19 Sprint Car for many years.

In 2000, his car won the URC Points Championship.

He was a member of the Jordan Evangelical Lutheran Church, Orefield.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter, Deborah S. Long and her husband, Daryl, of Shartlesville; sisters Susan E. Bowman and her husband, Kerry, of New Underwood, S.D., Dawn J. Young of Charleston, S.C.; brother Robert K. Moyer and his wife, Linda, of Lehighton; grandchildren Chadd, Trey and Dylan Long; and great-grandchildren, Jesse and Elliee Long.

His memorial service will take place at 7 p.m. Sept. 6, in Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville, with the Rev. Jimmy Lee Werley officiating.

Visitation period from 6-7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Interment will be private.
