Good Shepherd School, Northampton, began its 2013-14 school year Monday with an enrollment of 285 students, a slight increase from last year's enrollment of 281.
Irene Quigley returns as principal. She previously served as principal at Christ the King School in Coplay before the school merged with Our Lady of Hungary School, Northampton, to become Good Shepherd.
The Newport Avenue-based parochial school, which teaches students in kindergarten through eighth grade, is staffed by 17 full-time teachers, which represents two teachers for every grade level, except one.
Good Shepherd is equipped with a computer lab with iPad and portable laptop labs, which were installed last year. It also has interactive Smart Boards.
Students in kindergarten through third grade are taught French. Spanish is taught to students in grades four through eight.
"We will have four days of school next week and four days the following week," Quigley said the week before school began.
The school serves the parishes of St. Peter's, Coplay; St. John's, Stiles; Holy Trinity, Egypt; and Blessed Virgin Mary, St. John and Queenship of Mary, all in Northampton.
