It rarely happens but Steve Burker was at a loss for words following the 32nd annual Coplay Community Days festival.

"Sunday evening I lost most of my voice," said Burker, chairman of the annual event.

"This is one of the few times you will find me lost for words," he quipped.

Despite being a little hoarse, Burker had a lot to say about the "overwhelming response" he and other organizers received from people who visited the event and commented on the "hospitality" shown by the Coplay community.

"It was definitely Coplay's finest hour thus far for 2013," Burker said.

Country music will return again next year as will the Aardvarks, Large Flowerheads, Andy "Elvis" Svreck and the Ironton Rail-Trail Loop Run, Burker said.

Mermaid Avalon will also return to next year's Community Days and will likely visit the Coplay pool during the summer, he said.

Although it's too early to say how much money the festival made, Burker said donations to the community are already planned.

"We will be looking at installing ceiling fans inside the pavilion [and] adding another portion of fencing to Coplay Sports ball field," he said. "We just donated two more security cameras to [the borough]."

Burker said he was thankful for all the sponsors, event committee members, volunteers and borough personnel who made the event a success.

"And I thank God for the perfect weather," he said.

Burker said he was especially pleased with the turnout Friday night to see The Aardvarks. He also enjoyed seeing followers of the Large Flowerheads showing up in tie-dye, headbands, beads and other 1970s styles.

Another highlight was when Andy "Elvis" Svreck started singing "Suspicious Minds" and the Large Flowerheads joined him on stage.

"What an event that was, Burker said.

Members of The Aardvarks also attended the festival Sunday to support the Large Flowerheads, proving they are a "class act," he said.
