Bath church volunteers make dinner by hand

At 8 a.m. Aug. 24 volunteers gathered in the kitchen at Christ United Church of Christ in Bath.

By 4 p.m. they had turned 55 pounds of ham, 70 pounds of potatoes and two bushels of beans into the church's 29th annual ham and string bean dinner.

Started in 1984, the annual ham and string bean dinner has remained a hit with church members and residents of Bath and the surrounding area.

Volunteers peel and cut potatoes by hand. They also wash and cut beans donated by Twin Maple Farms. Beans and potatoes slow cook all day in seven roasters until its time for the food to be served.

With the dinner comes dessert and beverages. All desserts are also handmade by volunteers of the church.

Many folks that could not stay to enjoy the meal had the option to have their dinner to go.

The proceeds of the dinner go back to the church.

A pork and sauerkraut dinner is scheduled for 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept 21.
