The weather was warm and dry for the 29th annual 5K and Quinna Schleicher Kids Fun Run and Paws in the Park held Aug. 10 in Alburtis. Usually starting and ending at Alburtis Elementary School, a change was made this year to make it easier for the runners. The end of the race was set up across from Alburtis Area Community Center on Walnut Street
The Macungie Ambulance crew and Alburtis Police Department stood by in case they were needed.
IronPigs mascot FeRROUS led the kids in warming up and stretching out their muscles before the Fun Run. People lined the sidewalks, talking and laughing together and as runners came by they encouraged the two legged and four legged runners heading for the finish line.
Following the playing of the national anthem the race began with the Kids Fun Run. Coming in first for the boys was Riley Williamson and Adriana Aubele, for the girls.
The adults were next with male winners being Zachary Grant coming in first, John Miller in second and Josh Schultz placing third. Placing first for the females was Tiffany Schwartz, second, Hanna Brosky and third, Karen Lam-Duckett. More race results can be found on the Alburtis Area Community Center website.
Last was Paws in the Park with dogs' tails wagging and tongues dripping as their owners walked or ran along with their happy pets.
