Some 60 local actors and an orchestra of professional musicians from throughout the Lehigh Valley presented the whimsical musical "Seussical" last week under the auspices of the St. Thomas More Summer Theater Magic group.
The production began Aug. 15 at the St. Thomas More School auditorium, continued Aug. 16 and 17 and closed with a performance Aug. 18. "Seussical" is a musical by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty based on the books of Dr. Seuss. It first debuted on Broadway in 2000. The play's story is a rather complex amalgamation of many of Seuss's most famous books and draws heavily on Horton Hears a Who, which centers on Horton the Elephant's efforts to protect the people of Whoville, who live on a tiny speck of dust.
The popular overture "He Thinks He Can Think" which plays on "The Cat in the Hat," featured the entire cast of 60 area actors, children and adults.
Proceeds from the production will benefit the Cay Galgon Center of Mary's Shelter, of Reading, a housing and social services organization for pregnant young women.
