Rowland G. Schlauch, Jr., 87, of Slatington, died Aug. 9, 2013, in his home.

He and his wife Dorothy J. (Gottshall) Schlauch celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary last Aug. 20.

Born March 7, 1926, in Allentown, he was the son of the late Rowland G. Sr. and Marion (Miller) Schlauch.

A graduate of Muhlenberg College, class of 1950, he faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He remained in the military with a rank of first lieutenant in the National Guard.

He was manager of the National Car Rental Division at the former Ruhe Motor Corp., Allentown, for many years before retiring in 1995.

He had a partnership with his brother, Rodney, involving several family farms.

He was a member of the United Church of Christ congregation of Heidelberg Union Church, Heidelberg where he formerly served on the consistory.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Barbara A. Steiner and her husband, Joseph, of Bernardsville, N.J., Audrey J. Berkheiser of Slatington, Jane E. Duddek and her husband, John, of New Tripoli; brother, Rodney K. and his wife, Diane, of Heidelberg Township; seven grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

He was predeceased by a twin brother, Richard G.
