Redone NASD website unveiled
The Northampton Area School District website has been revamped just in time for the start of classes in two weeks.
"This website becomes our digital hub," NASD Director of Technology Kurt Paccio said during a website presentation at Monday night's school board meeting.
The website home page has larger graphics, a news section in the center, events listing on the right side, a list of quick links along the left side and drop-down tabs along the top.
"It all happens from the webpage," Paccio said.
The website has an application, or an "app," for smart phones. The website is designed for use on tablets, as well.
"The world is going mobile," said Paccio.
"It looks great. It's very modern-looking," said school board member Jennifer Miller.
"I can't take credit for that. There were many keen eyes behind it," Paccio said. "Behind the scenes is a very complex web of people keeping it current."
The former website design dates back to 2005-06.
Paccio will provide a website update for NASD staffers, who report to class Aug. 19, one week before students return, Aug. 26.
New parent orientation was to have been held Aug. 14. Seventh-grade parents' orientation was to have been held Aug. 15.
In another matter at the Aug. 12 school board meeting, NASD Superintendent Joseph Kovalchik again reviewed the changed traffic patterns for the $80.7-million Northampton Area Middle School and Secondary Campus Renovation Project.
Information about parent drop-off and pick up of students and bus routes on campus is available on the district website.
About 25 NASD staffers will help to direct motorists and students at the campus.
"What we're trying to do is separate bus and car traffic," Kovalchik said.
"If we have to tweak it, we will," Kovalchik said.
The traffic patterns will handle some 3,000 students, 45 buses and NAHS and middle school staffers.
"We actually think this will be better because it will be more controlled," Kovalchik said.
Kovalchik was to attend a meeting with Northampton borough police department officials Aug. 20 concerning campus traffic.
Concerning campus infrastructure construction, Christopher W. Haller, project engineer, D'Huy Inc., said that the new Stadium Drive has been paved.
"That will be turned over soon," Haller said.
Jay Clough, principal, KCBA, project architects, noted that Aug. 19 marked two months of construction.
"Most of that happened in a two-month span, which is really impressive," Haller said.
"The contractors are great to work with. Everything is going great. They're a great bunch of people," said NASD Director of Operations Robert J. Yanders.
