Donald O. Eberwein, 91, of Lehigh Furnace, died July 29, 2013, in Palmerton Hospital.
He and his wife Arlene M. (Silfies) Eberwein celebrated 68 years of marriage in January.
Born June 6, 1922, in Lehigh Furnace, he was the son of the late George and Daisy (Remaley) Eberwein.
He was a Navy veteran during World War II, during which he served as a petty officer third class in Africa and Sicily onboard the USS Narragansett (AT-88) from 1942-45.
Employed for 44 years by Mack Trucks Inc., Allentown, he served as an assembler until retiring.
A member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Slatedale, he served there as former treasurer and council member.
He was a member of Citizens Fire Company No. 1, Inc., Slatedale, Walnutport Senior Citizens, and was a former member of the Lehigh Furnace Sunday School.
He enjoyed gardening, hunting and was an avid bowler.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son Donald O. and wife, Rebecca B. Steigerwalt, of Palmerton; grandson Jonathan J. Rex and wife, Denise; granddaughter, Kate S. Eberwein, wife of Dr. Thomas Melluish; nieces; and nephews.
He was predeceased by daughters Sandra A. Eberwein in 2005 and Kathleen L. Rex in 2006; by brother, George; and sisters, Dorothy and Marlene; and an infant.
