Whitehall Township continues its cleanup efforts at the Prydun farm in Hokendauqua.

The 3,000-square foot, two-story white residence and outbuilding, turned over to the township in March for $310,000, is situated on a12-acre tract near the Ironton Rail-Trail and Coplay Creek.

Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. said he is not certain whether the administration will include any funding for work or improvements to the property in the 2014 budget. The township commissioners would have to sign on for such expenses when adopting the budget.

Shortly after closing on the property, Hozza hosted a tour for the commissioners and other officials.

When the public will be able to tour the Prydun Farm is unclear. Hozza said cleanup work is slow because township personnel have to attend to other duties.

The Whitehall Historic Preservation Society is expected to be the overseer of the Prydun estate, as it does with the Helfrich Springs Grist Mill. Hozza said the township would continue to retain the deed to the property.

The administration and commissioners agreed the Prydun property would remain as a passive tract, with no plans for active uses such as ball fields or a playground.

A treasure trove of artifacts have been collected from the premises. The township is taking an inventory of the contents left in the main building by the previous owners.
