Summer swimming concludes for Kids
The Northampton Kids recently completed its summer swimming season with a 6-2 record, and a fourth-place finish in the Suburban Swim League Championships with 773 points.
The Kids opened Championships with a victory in the 200 free relay swum by Olivia Green, Alyssa Gerstenberg, Paige Knouse, and Becky Nothstein in 2:04.97.
In 8 & under girls, Lianna Schultz, Maya Bond, Gabi Oswald, and Green took second place in the 100 free relay.
In individual events, Green placed second in the 25 breaststroke, and Schultz came in third in the 25 butterfly and the 25 backstroke.
Sarah Hosking won the 25 breaststroke in 21.72 and the 25 free in 16.08 for 9 & 10 girls, while placing third in the 25 backstroke.
Northampton Kids coach Bill Walakovits said, "[Sarah] swims year-round and did a heck of a job."
In 11-12 girls, Gerstenberg won the 50 butterfly in 34.41 and placed second in the 100 individual medley. Molly Nagle placed third in the 50 butterfly, and Reese Caley was third in the 50 backstroke.
Becky Nothstein took first place in the 50 free in 29.96 and third place in the 100 IM in 13-14 girls.
"Becky had a really good summer. She tends to swim really well for me. When she had to get up and go, she had that extra burst. She was very confident this summer," said Walakovits.
In 15 & over girls, Knouse won the 50 butterfly in 30.94 and placed third in the 50 free.
"[Paige] is on the high school team. She's a really good swimmer and a very, very hard worker," Walakovits said. "The girls had a good mental vibe [this summer] and swam so good at Championships."
In 8 & under boys, Jake Ladd took second place in the 25 backstroke.
In 9-10 boys, Matt Greer was a double-event winner, placing first in the 25 backstroke in 19.07 and the 25 free in 15.82.
"Matt qualified for Junior Olympics. He swims year round. He's really talented," said Walakovits.
Also in 9-10 boys, Connor Oswald placed third in the 25 breaststroke, and DJ Fragano placed second in the 25 backstroke.
In 13 & Over boys, Michael Bauer, Miles Magyar, Kyle Iasiello, and Joey Szerencsits took third place in the 200 medley relay.
For Northampton, the highlight of the summer came on July 1 when the Kids defeated Soleco 287-285.
"Beating Soleco in the regular season, I think it surprised a lot of people. It was a big confidence booster," Walakovits said.
