John B. Freeman, Jr.

John B. Freeman Jr., 92, a longtime resident of Fullerton, Whitehall Township, died peacefully Aug. 1, 2013.

He and his wife Mary L. (Hooks) Freeman were married 55 years at the time of her death Oct. 24, 2010.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the only child of John B. and Helen (Margerum ) Freeman Sr.

He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, South Whitehall.

A 1938 graduate of Abington High School, he attained his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Penn State in 1942, and remained an avid and loyal supporter of the university.

Attaining the rank of first lieutenant with the U.S. Army during World War II, he served as unit commander of the 923rd Engineer Aviation Regiment in England, France and Germany.

He retired from AT&T after many years of service, and worked part time for more than 30 years at Sears in the Whitehall Mall.

His survivors include sons John R. Sr. and his companion Teresa "Katie" Simpson of Allentown, Jeffrey D. and his wife, Kim, of New Smithville; daughter Barbara C. Matika and her husband, Gary, of Schnecksville; grandchildren John R. Jr. and his wife Leni, Heather D. Sabo and her husband Andrew, Zachary, Kayli, Kyle and Kelsey; great-grandchildren twins Aston and Casey, Max and Enrique.

His services will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 10, in Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road, South Whitehall with the Rev. Eric Yeakel officiating.

There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in the Memorial Garden at Asbury, followed by a luncheon in the church parlor.

Contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
