LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Snyder, boys see positives

With his summer tournaments over, Catty head boys' basketball coach Eric Snyder had plenty of positives toward his winter ahead.

Snyder, who oversaw both the Catty men's summer league and the North Catty summer league, was pleased with his team's overall play in the Catty league as well as the team's overall progress during the summer in which they participated in the Stellar Tournament and Sportsfest.

"We took our lumps in the Catty league," said the veteran coach. "But we did manage to win two games and we were very competitive in eight or nine of them. We also lost two games in overtime."

Snyder was pleased with the play of his upperclassmen, but he was dissatisfied with the effort from his underclassmen.

"We didn't have the numbers we had last year when we would have 12, 13 or more show up at a game," he said. "This summer, we had less and we sometimes had five or six kids at a game. I was very happy with our seniors, but we didn't have the commitment we needed from our younger guys."

Snyder cited the play of seniors Brandon Purrone, Paryss Marshall, Ra'Von Burton and Derrick Bond, all of whom excelled during the summer.

"(Brandon) Purrone improved his shooting and we hope he can carry it through to the winter," said Snyder. "Paryss (Marshall) was unreal on the boards this summer. He (Marshall) was banging with guys who were 6-3, 6-4 or bigger and he's 6-2.

"Ra'Von (Burton) played well defensively and brought a lot of energy, and Derrick (Bond) played well on the boards as well. He (Bond) is used to playing a guard spot and shoots three-pointers well, but he'll have to play inside for us this year.

"Those four seniors did a yeoman's job this summer and I was proud of their efforts."

Snyder also noted the play of juniors Dave Wetherhold and Sean Klobosits, who also further developed their game.

"Davey (Wetherhold) was there every game and he is a basketball junkie," added Snyder. "Sean Klobosits improved leaps and bounds from the end of his sophomore year. He (Klobosits) also grew this summer."

Jake Kober, Brandon Keks, Kevin Bond, Shaquan Mason and Corey Hicks all also were regular contributors. Dakota Schiffer, a transfer from Dieruff, will also be in the mix.

"Those guys worked hard," added Snyder. "Schiffer will definitely help us as he can play either guard spots as well as playing up front.

"It was a good summer for us. We'll see if this can transfer over for us during the winter."
