Richard W. Miller
Dr. Richard W. Miller, 77, of Schnecksville, died July 26, 2013 in his home.
He and his wife Ellen J. (Moser) Miller celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary May 3, 2013.
Born March 14, 1936, in Fogelsville, he was the son of the late Willard E. and Ruth E. (Lauchnor) Miller.
A graduate of Parkland High School, Class of 1954, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education in 1958 from Kutztown University, a Master's degree in elementary education in 1960, and a Doctor of Education degree in 1972, both from Lehigh University.
His teaching career began in Smyrna, Del.
From 1958-72, he was an elementary school teacher and elementary supervisor in the Northwestern Lehigh School District.
He was assistant superintendent of Administration in East Penn School District, 1974-77, superintendent of schools in Conrad Weiser School District, Robesonia, 1977-85, and superintendent of schools of Panther Valley School District, Lansford, 1985-90.
He was a member of Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, where he served on the church council and property committee.
He was a member of Carbon Lodge 242, F. & A.M., Jim Thorpe.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, nine grandsons and one granddaughter; Dr. Donna L. Miller, wife of Daniel J. Lasky and daughter, Taylor of Bethlehem; Scott A. Miller and his wife, Lisa, and sons Andrew and Jonathan of Sewell, N.J; Enid S. Rank and her husband, Kurtis A. and sons Kristopher and Brandon of Center Valley; Dr. Melinda B. Lucas and her husband Frank C. and sons, Stephen and Matthew of Quakertown; Amy L. Stendell and her husband, David B. and sons Jason, Joshua and Zachary of Slatington.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 10 a.m. Aug. 3, at Union United Church of Christ, 5550 Route 873, Neffs, with the Rev. Thomas N. Thomas officiating.
There will be no calling hours. Interment will follow the service.
