Recyclable Fuels granted special use for industrial site by borough zoning board

Recyclable Fuels, which wants to locate on an industrial site in Northampton, has recently been granted a special use by the borough's zoning board of adjustment.

The borough ordinance requires recycling entities receive a special use approval before moving forward with any plans.

Described as a "startup company" LeRoy Brobst, assistant to the manager, said Recyclable Fuels must next appear before the borough's planning commission.

The planners will review the company's plans for its operations and building, after which it will present its recommendation to borough council.

Borough lawmakers will then vote on the matter.

The site for Recyclable Fuels would be located off Horwith Lane, near the Co-Gen plant, an area several years ago occupied by Ponderosa Fibres.

Brobst said Recyclable Fuels would occupy space in the building that housed Ponderosa Fuels, and its area would be enclosed by the larger section of the building.

According to Brobst, the company will grind incoming materials, such as plastics, paper and cardboard and then package them for distribution to other companies.

Brobst pointed out no burning of materials would take place.

The material could be utilized at cement kilns.

The company is expected to have a small number of employees.

Borough officials will discuss further details which will be part of the testimony before the planning commission, and then council.
