The water fountain located at the Water Street Park is now in operation.

"It's going. It is now a water saver fountain, meaning every drop is recycled," Hellertown resident Joe Delfoe informed members of borough council during the July 15 meeting.

Delfoe said the fountain has been running since the second week of July with no apparent loss of water.

"It is set up now that the borough can finish it," Delfoe said.

Delfoe added he still needs to do grading to the area where the water fountain is located. He asked the borough for a few truckloads full of stones for a walkway he would like to see installed.

"I think the fountain looks wonderful," commented borough President Phil Weber.

Last fall, Delfoe was granted permission by council to restore the water fountain. He said he expects the entirety of the project will be completed within the next four to five weeks.

In other business, Dewey Fire Company No. 1 Fire Chief Rick Delmore presented to council the quarterly report. Delmore said the fire company has responded to 180 calls to date, up from 5 percent last year. Delmore also said nine members of the department have completed national hazardous materials training. He reported the new fire truck has responded to five or six calls and the company is increasing its recruitment efforts.

"We're still in the process to recruit more members," Delmore said.

The next council meeting will be held 7 p.m. Aug. 5 in the borough municipal building.
