Liens filed against developers in township
Whitehall Township reports three developers which have failed to remit payment of outstanding legal and engineering fees owed the township now have liens filed against the properties.
"These include the Hadeed property at Eagle Point and Taylor Villas, " Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. noted in a report last Monday to the Board of Commissioners.
Unless the developers come up with the money owed sooner, the liens will remain on the books until the properties are sold to another party, and the liens are satisfied on transfer of ownership.
The township also reports it is successfully collecting delinquent owed Local Service taxes.
"Berkheimer continues to make excellent progress in the collection of delinquent Local Service Tax revenue from 2012," said Hozza. "Well over $100,000 has been paid and they continue to chase down delinquent employers."
Hozza also stated the township's purchasing agent is very busy coordinating numerous contracts and bids. The projects in the township include a new roof for the Schadt Avenue Playground building and the lease of copiers for the tax office and administration.
The township has begun making corrections and adjustments to its Liquid Fuels Fund resulting from an audit for 2011.
"This was due to the fact that between 2010 and 2011 various street re-construction projects were in the middle of completion and the Commonwealth required an adjusting of the balances and expenses," Hozza noted. "This actually worked to the township's benefit, in that the cash balance for the beginning of 2011 was much larger than originally reported. These corrections were noted in the 2012 filing and all comments were addressed."
The PA Municipal Retirement System began redrafting an ordinance which would add the Defined Contribution Plan to new township hires after April 1 of this year. The changes deal with the manner in which excess interest is distributed to old plan members. The Teamsters and the township are acceptable to the changes PMRS will make.
