July 24

Emmaus Public Library will host a preschool connections grand opening 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come and play with all new toys and games provided by a Library Services and Technology Act Preschool Connections grant intended to serve families and their children aged birth through five years. Light refreshments will be served. This program is free and open to the public. The purpose of this grant is to provide a welcoming space for children, parents and caregivers. The library has added soft furniture where parents and children can sit and share a book. To enhance children's experience, musical and rhythm instruments will be used during programs. Books for parents, grandparents and caregivers have been added in a special collection. This project was funded in part with a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. A special "thank you" is given to the Emmaus Rotary Club for providing the funding for the rocking chair.

July 25

The Lehigh Valley Chapter 1371 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees will hold their annual picnic at the Allentown Rose Garden #2 picnic pavilion, starting 11:30 a.m. A complete luncheon, with drinks and dessert, will be provided. Participants will enjoy door prizes, a number of games and bingo. All current and former Federal workers are invited to attend. Senator Pat Browne, R-16th, will hold his annual community and family expo 3 to 7 p.m. at Bucky Boyle Park, North Front and Gordon Streets in Allentown. The event is free and is held rain or shine. Das Awkscht Fescht, one of the country's largest antique and classic car shows, will take place through Aug. 4 at Macungie Memorial Park. The featured car this year is the Buick. For more information, go to www.awkscht. com.

Indoor and outdoor toy show in Macungie. The outdoor show will be held in the parking areas of Shoemaker and Macungie Elementary Schools and the indoor show will be at Eyer Middle School. The 52nd annual Lehigh Valley Health Network Muhlenberg Summer Festival, 2545 Schoenersville Road, Bethlehem, through Aug. 17. Festival hours are 5 to 10:30 p.m.. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and noon to 10:30 p.m. Saturday. Craft tents, rides, bands, games, attic treasures and children's activities are just some of the events planned.
