SportsFest is up next for Catty boys

After a respectable showing in the Stellar Tournament, Catty's boys' basketball team will look forward to Sportsfest at Cedar Beach this weekend. It also provided a preliminary look at the team's chances in the winter.

At the Stellar Tournament, the Roughies beat the Liberty JVs, lost to Allen, beat Palmerton and finally dropped a 66-62 decision to Whitehall that was rescheduled to a Sunday 7a.m. tipoff due to the rain.

"We looked like deer in headlights against Allen," stated head coach Eric Snyder." We missed foul shots and layups at the beginning of the game and we couldn't get used to Allen's tempo. We came back and played a good game against Palmerton. Playing at 7 a.m. was a first, but we reacted well."

In the tournament, Snyder credited the play of point guard Brandon Purrone along with forwards Paryss Marshall and Dave Wetherhold. Sean Klobosits, who started on JV last season, had a very impressive showing.

"Brandon (Purrone) had a good tournament as did Paryss (Marshall) and (Dave) Wetherhold," added Snyder. "Sean (Klobosits) had a very good tournament and he had had a very good summer. He moves well and is getting used to the speed of the varsity game. But he should have a lot of playing experience this season."

Snyder also was pleased with the play of Ra'Von Burton and recent Dieruff transfer Dakota Schiffer. Derek and Eric Bond, both of whom the Roughies will look for post play this winter, missed the tournament due to vacation plans.

Others who participated in the tournament were Brandon Keks, Jake Kober, Cory Hicks, and Shaquain Mason, all of whom played well.

This week, the Roughies will play a full slate at Sportsfest beginning Thursday when they will meet Delaware Valley Charter, who played Parkland in last year's championship game, at 7p.m. On Saturday, they will meet Lake Lehman at 4 p.m. and then Easton at 7 p.m.

"We have been playing well this summer," said Snyder. "We'll take another look at thigns this weekend and see where we are."
