Edwards make all-state teams

Zac Edwards and Hannah Edwards have a lot in common. After last week, you can add one more thing to their list as they were both selected as all-state players in their respective sports. Zac was chosen as a second team all-state middle infielder in baseball and Hannah made the first team all-state team as an outfielder in softball.

And, the family recently announced that Hannah was selected as a member of the MaxPreps Softball Underclass All-American freshman team for 2013.

Both ranked number-one in their class and Zac was the 2013 class valedictorian.

The duo also made first team Colonial League, something Zac accomplished the last two years. Zac was also a Colonial League Academic All-Star member while Hannah received awards from other newspapers.

On the field, Zac finished his senior year with a .516 batting average and an on-base percentage of .603. He collected 33 hits, scored 19 runs and had 18 RBIs. He did not strike out one time during his senior and junior years combined, which came out to zero strikeouts in 139 at bats. During Zac's four-year varsity career, he hit .469 with an on base average of .591 while collecting 83 hits. He struck out two times in 215 at bats.

Hannah finished her freshman year by challenging many Catty High School softball records. She batted .659 with an on-base percentage of .705. She had 56 hits, 51 stolen bases and scored 40 runs. She led the team with 2 home runs and struck out only one time in 95 at bats. She had at least one hit in every game.

Zac and Hannah are multisport athletes. Zac was the captain of the baseball, basketball, and cross country teams. In basketball, he ended his career with 107 three-point field goals.

Hannah also plays field hockey, and helped the Catty girls reach the district tournament last year. She led the team in scoring and received Colonial League honors.

Zac will be attending Lebanon Valley College in the fall to pursue a degree in accounting and continue his baseball career. He just finished playing baseball for the Northampton Legion.

Hannah continues to play softball for Lower South Liberty 18U Gold team. They will be playing in the National Championships in Huntington Beach, Calif. later this summer.

Their father Robert "Yogi" Edwards was a 1975 graduate of Slatington High School and starred in football, baseball and basketball. In college Edwards excelled in football and baseball at Muhlenberg College. A football injury kept "Yogi" from being drafted in professional baseball.

Hannah led every All-American with 51 stolen bases. The next closest to Edwards was Alicia Dalton, who had 24. The Cy-Fair High freshman infielder has already committed to the University of Oklahoma.

Players from 18 states made the All-America squad, 25 in all made it. With domination of warm weather states such as California, it is a tribute to Hannah that she is one of seven players who face all four seasons and are outside from March through early November.
