Bridge construction and repairs, along with road improvements across Whitehall Township, are keeping the township busy.

Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. said the latest one added to the list is the Cementon-Northampton Bridge. In need of emergency repairs, work on the bridge will take place evenings and overnight. PennDOT has reported it expects no disruption to traffic during daytime hours when both lanes will be open. Route 329 is a heavily traveled road, not only by passenger vehicles, but also by trucks and other commercial vehicles.

Meanwhile, construction is progressing on the replacement of a small bridge on Lehigh Street over the Coplay Creek. A temporary road was constructed to carry traffic while the new bridge, near the Hokendauqua Park and Playground, is erected. The new bridge is expected to be completed in November or December.

Work continues full time at the site of the Hokendauqua-North Catasauqua Bridge. The work is taking place on the Lehigh River's bottom. Much of the grated bridge remains standing, and two smaller bridges on the Whitehall Township side have been removed. The project is expected to be completed next October.

Work also continues on bridge and ramp replacement improvements at Route 22 and MacArthur Road, with a possible 2014 completion.

The Route 145/MacArthur Road safety construction project, from Eberhart Road to Municipal Drive, is on target for completion in October. Much of the heavy construction, widening, curbing and paving, is well on its way to being completed.

By year's end, Penn-DOT will open bids for a bridge replacement at the north end of Cementon, by Spring Mill Road.
