On the Fourth of July residents of the 1800 block of Sycamore Street and roughly five surrounding blocks got together for the 13th anniversary of their annual Block Party. About 40 old and newer neighbors chatted while keeping an eye on their children and pets until it was time to take their places at festively decorated tables to hear readings of the Declaration of Independence and the Gettysburg Address. The event turned lighthearted when about 20 attendees competed in the ever-popular water balloon toss, which was followed by a potluck dinner. Neighbors lingered long after the meal was over catching up on news and enjoying each other's company on a beautiful day outdoors.
