NASD replaces retiring teachers

While school's out for the summer for students, the work continues for school district administrators and school board members.

The Northampton Area School District has hired a number of teachers for the start of the 2013-14 school year. The teachers are not filling new positions but rather are replacing retirees.

The salaries of all teachers hired are based on their level of education and years of experience as per the union contract.

As recommended by the administration at the June 24 meeting, school board members voted to approve the hiring of the following teachers for full-time positions:

· Nathan Strohl, long-term substitute German teacher at the high school, effective Aug. 19, for the first semester of the 2013-14 school year. His salary will be $46,050, prorated, with no benefits.

· Megan Rehrig, long-term substitute at Moore Elementary School, effective Aug. 19, for the 2013-14 school year. Her salary will be $46,050 with benefits.

· Stefani Kerbacher, long-term substitute at Moore Elementary School, effective Aug. 19, for the 2013-14 school year. Her salary will be $46,050 with benefits.

· Tina Ventresca, special education teacher at George Wolf Elementary School, effective Aug. 19. Her annual salary will be $46,661 with benefits.

· Breann Williams, special education teacher at George Wolf Elementary School, effective Aug. 19. Her annual salary will be $46,050 with benefits.

· Seth Lisa, social studies teacher at the high school, effective Aug. 19. Because he has a master's degree, his annual salary will be $50,107 with benefits.

· Sara Makovsky, long-term substitute at Lehigh Elementary School, effective Aug. 19, for the first semester of the 2013-14 school year. Her salary will be $46,050, prorated, without benefits.

· Katie Biechy, special education teacher at Lehigh Elementary School, effective Aug. 19. Her annual salary will be $46,661 with benefits.

At the June 24 board meeting, the NASD school board voted to approve the resignations of the following coaches:

· Jonathan Gray, assistant football coach, effective June 14;

· Joseph Pollock, assistant football coach, effective May 28;

· Lonnie Christoff, assistant girls basketball coach, effective June 20;

· Colin Kessler, assistant boys basketball coach, effective June 15; and

· Lauren Fritzinger, assistant cheerleading coach, effective June 17.

At the June 10 board meeting, the board approved the hiring of:

Lindsey Santanasto, long-term substitute English teacher at the high school, effective Aug. 19, for the 2013-14 school year. Her salary will be $46,050, with benefits; and

Morgan Litak, girls volleyball head coach, at a salary of $4,273.60, with no benefits.

At the May 20 board meeting, NASD school directors approved the hiring of:

· Tiffany Eberhart, assistant director of special education, effective July 1. Her salary will be $89,000 with benefits.

· Marilyn Detrick, special education teacher at the middle school, effective Aug. 19. Her annual salary will be $82,714.42 with benefits.

· Isidro Figueroa, long-term substitute Spanish teacher at the high school, effective Aug. 19, for the 2013-14 school year. His salary will be $46,050 with benefits.

· Pamela Hayford, long-term substitute special education teacher at the high school, effective Aug. 19, for the 2013-14 school year. Her salary will be $46,050 with benefits.

At the May 6 board meeting, the board approved the hiring of:

· Kyle Slee as Northampton Area School District athletic trainer for July 1 through June 30, 2016. Her initial salary will be $42,872.80, which represents a 2-percent increase of her 2012-13 salary and a 2-percent increase each year over the length of the contract.

· Genevieve Wilde, biology teacher at the high school, effective Aug. 19, at an annual salary of $47,461 with benefits.

· Leigh Tetor, physics teacher at the high school, effective Aug. 19. Her annual salary will be $46,850 with benefits.

· Christopher Erdo, science teacher at the middle school, effective Aug. 19. His annual salary will be $51,016 with benefits.

· Tresa Bartosh, chemistry teacher at the high school, effective Aug. 19. Her annual salary will be $48,072 with benefits.
