The Catasauqua Grasshoppers recently competed in the Coplay Grasshopper Tournament that was held at Coplay's Sam Balliet Stadium. The tournament was run flawlessly buy Bob Minnich and Todd Troxell. The fields were perfect and the snack stand was overflowing.
Catty's little athletes were able to hang in there, but ended up losing in the first round to Allen Township. Allen's offense was just too much to handle as they were finding the gaps on every hit.
It was a blistering hot day and the Catty Grasshoppers had to play another game in the loser's bracket at 2 p.m. Catty started out great, hitting blistering shots throughout the field, but Coplay 1's defense was on the money.
Coplay 1's offense was the same, red hot. They were able to find the gaps and sneak the ball through scoring six runs, beating Catty 6-4.
Although the Roughies didn't take home the first or second place trophies, the athletes had smiles on their faces, toughed it out in the heat and had that opportunity to play more competitive baseball. The Roughies were presented with medals at the closing ceremonies where their faces lit up and cheered on all the rest of the seven teams. Catty was coached by Jason Fotta.
Congrats to Fullerton as they were able to shutout Coplay 2 and win the championship against Hockey 9-7.
