Brown wins Biddy title
Egypt Green shocked once beaten Bowmanstown Big Red Machine in the semifinals playoff pounding them by seven runs, something Catty didn't even do, but the Roughies rose to the occasion in a game that was closer than the score appears, an 11-5 victory to capture the Central Whitehall League Biddy title.
The game was played at Stoney Ridge Park in Bowmanstown on Saturday, June 29.
The game was tied 5-5 before Catty used big innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth to pull away. In the fourth, Matt Ritter got things going with a double to center before a Dylan Hertzog single brought him home and a Jacob Nye single eventually scored Hertzog.
In the top of the fifth, Adam Reinhart made the defensive play of the game. A ball was hit to his left at short, he slid over to field it, slipped, but threw a bullet while on his backside to Troxell at first to record the second out of the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, with a 7-5 lead, Catty added three more to put things away. Troxell started things with a walk before a Sebastian Arias single put runners on first and third. Reinhart followed with a huge three-run homer to make it 10-5.
Egypt grabbed a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Luke Keppel which scored Will Chilcote, but Catty quickly jumped back on top 3-1. Ritter had a two-run single in the inning for Catty.
Egypt would take the lead 4-3 in the third on a two-run single by Connor Angelestein, but Catty again battle back and took the lead 5-4. This time it was Mason Hess who doubled to bring in two. But back came Egypt in the top of the fourth thanks to a Bryce Bashore double that made it 5-5.
Catasauqua Brown got great pitching from Reinhart, Arias and Tyler Monahan. Reinhart had six strikeouts, Arias had four and induced four ground ball outs and Monahan struck out the first and last batter in the top of the seventh to end the game.
"This was a total team win, a heroic effort by all 13 players. These players were focused and were not going to be denied in their quest for a championship and an undefeated season. Each player contributed something to this win, whether it was a key play in the field or a key hit," said head coach Travis Bett.
The players gave a huge shout out to their parents, friends, and relatives who were at the game. Moms and dads had their car windows painted with their son's uniform number and their name wishing them luck for the big game.
Catty finishes at 18-0 and scored 218 runs and allowed just 56. Members of the team were Austin Brett, Troxell, Arias, Reinhart, Hess, Jalen Lukitsch (reached base all three times), Monahan, Ritter, Hertzog, Jacob Scheirer (single, run), Nye, Donovan Walakovitz (single) and Kaleb Croft (RBI single).
