With the July 4 holiday upcoming, would-be anglers have an opportunity to fish for free that day as part of the PA Fish & Boat Commission's second Fish-for-Free Day.

And if those anglers are really lucky and fish at the right place at the right time, they may latch onto one of Cabela's Fish for Millions contest fish that they are sponsoring along with the PF&BC.

To date, the PF&BC reports some of the winners of the contest that ends on July 7. Of the tagged species they caught, there was a prize-winning brown trout, crappie, largemouth bass, rainbow trout, smallmouth bass and walleye. The mix have been caught at the Elmsworth Pool on the Ohio and Allegheny rivers, Foster Joseph Sayers Lake, Keystone Lake, Lake Arthur, Lake Wallenpaupack, Pinchot Lake, Pine Creek and Presque Isle Bay.

The PF&BC reported the top winning anglers thus far are Raymond Biddle Jr., of Jefferson Hills, PA, Wayne Ziegler of Butler, PA, George McGrady, Carnegie, PA and Doug Antil, of Titusville, PA. McGrady and Antil each have won an Ultimate Fishing Gear Package from Cabela's and worth $2,500 while Ziegler won a $5,000 Cabela's Shopping Spree and Biddle won a $60,000 Ranger bass boat.

Raymond Biddle, 48, says the PF&BC, caught his winning largemouth bass on Keystone Lake in Keystone State Park. Starting out as a shore angler in 2007, he then progressed into being a boat angler making regular fishing trips to Keystone State Park. Biddle managed to catch his tagged fish when his wife wanted to go camping and try out a new camper they purchased. When he caught the fish and realized what it was, he began shaking, was shocked and amazed.

Before catching this fish he knew that finding any of the tagged fish was like "finding an needle in a haystack." But he did and he also fishes the Monongahela River on occasion.

When asked what he plans to do during the July 4th holiday, he responded that he'll be camping with family and friends at Keystone Lake and plans to take advantage of the Fish-for-Free Day by introducing others to what he knows is a rewarding experience on multiple levels.

Unfortunately, the PF&BC didn't' provide details on the winners' catch. It would have been nice to know the size of the bass, what it was caught on and at what depth, as the others as well. Without that, here's a reminder as to where a tagged fish can still be caught before next Sunday's July 7 contest end:

Not having visited many of the aforementioned waters, it appears all are large, not small bodies of water, which makes fishing for the winning fish that much tougher.
