LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Regular season winding down

Catasauqua head Lehigh Valley Connie Mack (LVCM) head coach Jim Kober will await to see his team's seed in the postseason tournament.

Catty ended its season Wednesday night against Moore Township and had an 11-5 overall record.

Even though his team likely will have one of the top five seeds in the league playoffs, Kober believed his team could have had even a better season.

"We have had a good season," said Kober. "The guys have answered the call when we needed to, but we lost a couple of games against lower-seeded teams. Those are games we should have won, but you never know."

Kober specifically mentioned a 4-3 to Northern Valley and a 7-4 game to Bangor.

"We have a busy schedule and the ball can bounce a certain way sometimes," Kober said. "But we also had some big wins, like one over Lehigh-Bethlehem (last Friday). We just have to see how the rest of the season plays out for us."

In the Roughies' 4-3 win over Lehigh-Bethlehem, Jordan Madaya went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Alex Torres was 2-for-2. Dakota Schiffer relieved starter James Kober and allowed one run over five effective innings.

But, the Roughies dropped a game against Pocono Mountain East that could have hurt their playoff chances to be among the top-five seeds and have home field advantage.

"The way I see it, we're in a good spot," said Kober. "We had a big win over Lehigh-Bethlehem with them being the top seed. The way things should play out among the other teams, we should be either a fourth- or fifth-seed."

Kober noted that Madaya, Joe Rothrock, and either Mike Shutta or Alex Torres will participate in the league's all-star game in Limeport Saturday.

Kober will also welcome a week respite between the end of the regular season and the beginning of the playoffs, July 8. The top-two teams in the LVCM will Lehigh Valley championship, and the remaining eight teams will begin a best-of-three series that will pit the higher-seeded teams against the lower-seeded teams with the winners advancing to states.

"Actually, we're looking forward to the layoff," said Kober. "We have had a good season and the kids believe we can make some noise in the playoffs. We wanted to finish strong and then take another step in the playoffs."
