Hanover discusses Chestnut Grove upgrades
Hanover Township Maintenance Supervisor Jeff Mouer appeared before the Hanover Township Council June 19 to discuss Chestnut Grove Park projects that would include repaving half the basketball court, installing a swing set and play gym.
Mouer said he recently met with a contractor, Bitting Recreation Inc, Harrisburg, that would be responsible for installing the playground.
"The contractor provided standards today for playgrounds," he said. "They did provide pricing for a new swing set and two play gyms."
Mouer said the swing set and play gyms would cost $40,000.
Township Manager Sandra Pudliner advised council funds are limited for such projects.
"We don't have that kind of money to put that play gym in," Pudliner said. "He [contractor] can do the small stuff.
Council Vice Chairman Randal C. Atkinson indicated there is a line in the budget devoted to recreational items.
Pudliner suggested the township put a seal on the basketball court rather than install a new one which would result in a cost savings.
Mouer ultimately recommended the township postpone applying a sealing to the court and concentrate on improvements to the playground instead.
According to Mouer, Bitting was the only contractor that showed any interest in the project.
Mouer told council he would move forward in working with Bitting for the installation of the swing set and play gym.
In other business, Pudliner told council she recently spoke with the Lehigh County Office of Voter Registration regarding a discussion council members had recently about changing the polling location. She said, at the moment, Lehigh County considers the current location at the Han-Le-Co Fire Station to be suitable.
"They have control in that matter," said Pudliner. "If we want to change it back to the municipal building, we can request it, but they may not grant it because they are fine with it [where it is now]."
