Breinigsville celebrating 29th fireworks spectacular

Everyone is invited to gather family and friends for the 29th year anniversary of Schmoyer Funeral Home's Independence Day Fireworks Spectacular at dusk July 6 in Earl Adams Memorial Park, formerly Breinigsville Park, at 8935 Breinigsville Road. Rain date is July 7.

"This is the 10th year in Breinigsville Park," Carl Schmoyer III told The Press.

Schmoyer will be using the same computerized firing system as last year with the fireworks synchronized to music.

"It took an hour to an hour-and-a-half to design the show," Schmoyer said.

The show runs approximately 32 minutes.

"It will be a great show," Schmoyer said. "I have this the way I always wanted it. This is a big show for small town USA."

There will be more than 750 shells fired during the last 60 seconds of the grand finale.

Some of the fireworks include: blood-red to white peony with big blue pistil, multi-color peony in nishiki kamuro circle with four spangle tails, purple ghost peony with green pistil (color moves across peony), red to white strobing to blue peony with white strob pistil with four red tails, Japanese dragons eye, red ghost peony with silver pistil, nishiki kamuro peony with purple and spangle pistil, white ghost peony, blue to crackling palm tree with crackling pistil, gold coconut to multi-color crown flowers, nishiki kamuro Niagara Falls with red pistil and a host of others.

There will be some new fireworks from China that John Kemps, owner of Celebration Fireworks, Slatington, purchased last September.

"It is such a pleasure to work with somebody like John who has incredible knowledge regarding pyrotechnics," Schmoyer said.

The Municipal Band of Allentown will perform from 7:15-8:30 p.m. and there will be an old-fashioned patriotic sing-along at 8:30 p.m.

Emmaus' WTAP television personality Uncle Jeffrey will broadcast the show live at 3 p.m.

Steve Oplinger from Macungie will sing the national anthem.

Good Will Fire Company, Trexlertown, will bring a ladder truck with the 22-foot by 48-foot American flag Schmoyer purchased last year suspended from it.

Before the fireworks display, Schmoyer will read a version of the Declaration of Independence with some information added about July 6, 1776, the first public printing of the Declaration in The Pennsylvania Evening Post, published in Philadelphia.

"As long as I am involved in this, people can pause for a couple of minutes to hear the 56 names of the Founding Fathers of our nation," Schmoyer said.

Twelve lampare shells, flaming balls, have been choreographed into the show to light up the sky.

In addition, several Sky Chinese Lanterns will again open the show.

Upper Macungie Fire Commissioner Grant Grim, Fire Inspector Keith Richard, Trexlertown Fire Chief Scott Weber, Assistant Chief Arlan Wright, James and John Ellermann, Jamie Gorr, Ryan Seckington, Mark Hahn, Randy Roberts, David Makovsky, Dean and Karen Miller, plus eight or so crew members from Celebration Fireworks, including Kemps, will play a tremendous role in making the show a success.

Several volunteers from the Gary and Linda Gorr family will help with clean up and tear down after the show.

Retired Fire Chief Forrest Hausman, along with the current Trexlertown Fire Police Capt. Calvin Fetherolf, will handle traffic, parking and security.

Assistant Fire Chief Roger Conrad, Trexlertown, will handle safety and neighboring fire companies will stand by as well.

The cameraman for the live broadcast of the celebration will be Brandon Yenser of Alburtis.

Schmoyer thanks Entertainment Services Group, Trexlertown, for all its assistance with the sound and lighting system; as well as the Dietrich family from Four Seasons Garden Center for the use of sandbags, and Upper Macungie Township officials.

"We should take one day out of the year to acknowledge what our forefathers enacted for us," Schmoyer said.

In addition to the fireworks, VFW Post 8282, Butz Road, Breinigsville, will have a parade 1 p.m. at the ball fields in Breinigsville Park.
