Biddy Brown wins a thriller
At 17-0, Central Whitehall League's Catty Brown is going to the championship.
Catty came back from a 4-0 deficit in the bottom of the seventh to defeat the Big Red Machine of Bowmanstown 2 on Sunday.
Matt Ritter drew a walk with the bases loaded and the score tied 4-4 that forced home Adam Reinhart for the victory, 5-4.
Heading into the bottom of the seventh down 4-0, Caleb Croft drew a leadoff walk for Catty Brown. Leadoff batter Austin Brett then singled to center field, which put runners on first and second. Both runners advanced on a passed ball before Derek Troxell knocked both in with a hit to cut the deficit to 4-2. Sebastian Arias followed with a hit between short and third, which advanced Troxell to second. Cleanup batter Reinhart loaded the bases for Jalen Lukitsch, who hit a deep sacrifice fly that made it 4-3 and put runners on second and third with just one out.
Mason Hess was up next and hit a pop-up between second and third, but Bowmanstown dropped the ball so it was safe all around for the Roughs. Tyler Monahan drew a walk to tie the game, forcing home Arias to make it 4-4.
Reinhart was also the pitching ace for Catty, sitting down eight Bid Red batters on strikeouts, including eight out of 12 batters in three innings. Arias pitched the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and struck out two Bowmanstown hitters.
Monahan came on to pitch in the seventh stanza against Bowmanstown with two outs. He entered with the bases loaded, but fielded a comebacker that took his momentum took him in one direction. However, Tyler recovered and threw home for the force. Bowmanstown was playing well up until that point, leading 4-0.
Troxell went 3-for-3. Catty's Tyler Monahan had a big catch in left-center field in the sixth inning.
Catty plays for the championship next Saturday at Bowmanstown, a predetermined site for all Central Whitehall League games. They will face either Egypt Green.
Egypt will have to defeat Catty twice since Brown is undefeated.
"We would really love to get community support," said Dave Troxell, who keeps the scorebook. "The players have never quit or wavered, plus this would be coach Travis Brett's second championship. He led the CYAA to a youth football title in the fall."
