LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Summer teams showing results

It's summer again and Bethlehem teams are hitting the blacktop for another month of basketball at Cedar Beach.

Freedom, Liberty and Bethlehem Catholic are all off to good starts this summer to give everyone some positives in the Cedar Beach Summer League.

Freedom and Liberty are each 3-1, while Bethlehem Catholic is 2-2 as well.

For Patriots head coach Joe Stellato, he's just waiting to see what his team is capable of against some of the Lehigh Valley Conference competition.

"Obviously, we lost a lot of guys from last year, so I'm really trying to figure out who can play at this level," said Stellato. "We return Nigel Young and David Williams, but those are really the only two guys that have varsity experience.

"We have three spots open that we need to fill out. That's what we use the summer for. Sometimes guys can play under the sun and sometimes those guys can't play under the lights, but we need to get an idea of what we're going to have moving forward."

Liberty head coach Chad Landis has seen his team lose several key players to graduation, but just as Freedom sits, the Hurricanes are looking to fill spots with looks on the summer courts.

"We have a mix of young kids who are anxious to get varsity experience and a couple key returners from last year's team," said Landis. "It should be a fun summer. We'll be trying to see what we're good at and where we need to improve for the upcoming season."

Bethlehem Catholic is 2-2 at Cedar Beach, but Mike Frew's varsity team is also in the North Catty men's league, where they're 3-2 as well.

"We are in the men's league to develop our toughness and haven't backed down," said Frew. "We went to Bucknell two weeks ago and went 3-0 against good competition, so this group is challenging themselves this summer."
