Trojans' balance beats Kids

Nine different players found their name on the scoresheet as the balanced attack led Parkland to its second straight summer league win last Thursday night at Muhlenberg College, 56-28 over Northampton. It was also the second double-digit win for the Trojans during the early part of the summer season.

"It seemed like we were a little sluggish out there to start," said Nick Rindock. "The guys noticed that then and we started running and had a bunch of guys step up and score."

After the game, which was moved indoors because of rain, head coach Andy Stephens said he liked that a lot of guys scored, including some youngsters, because it "pushes the older guys."

Rising seniors Rindock, Nick Selvaggi and Jimmy Hahn have the most experience and led the way in scoring. But Devante Cross and Kevin Delourie did their part in putting pressure on the Konkrete Kids on defense, which led to turnovers and easy baskets on the other end.

Because the game was moved up the street to Muhlenberg's gym, it was the first time the Trojans played indoors since their state tournament run in March. They looked as if the change in environment suited them just fine.

"It was a great run for all of us," said Rindock of the 2012-13 varsity season. "It was a lot of fun. We all got really close from it. We're all friends and we all look out for each other. We have four starters back and we have all of these young guys coming up. It's huge experience for them."

Hahn (10 points, 3 assists) assisted on the first two baskets of the game for the Trojans, and also hit two from behind the arc. Rindock (17 points) led the team in scoring and also hit a shot from half court as the first half buzzer sounded.

Parkland led 39-17 at halftime, and Northampton did not come closer than within 13 points in the second half.

The Parkland B team made it a sweep on the night for the Trojans. They defeated Freedom's B team 41-16 in the nightcap.

"It's good for the program and the future that these guys are playing well and seeing time competitively," said Rindock. "We're going to need some younger kids to help us this year. It will help us if guys can knock down shots for us."
