Mary Jane Mohr
Mary Jane Mohr, 91, of Trexlertown, formerly of Fogelsville, died June 7, 2013.
She and her husband of 67 years, Donald Miller Mohr, resided together at Mosser Nursing Home until his death on Sept. 22, 2009.
Prior to that, they both enjoyed living in Allentown on Americus Drive.
Born Nov. 12, 1921, in Spokane, Wash., she was the daughter of Lyle Hamilton Clark Sr. and Lucille (Beck Clark) Curtis.
She grew up in Spokane with a great love of ice skating and won honors in figure skating for her solo and pairs competition with her brother.
She attended the all-girls Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., where she acquired a love of competitive horse jumping and riding.
It was at a college social event she met a young Lt. Donald Miller Mohr from Fogelsville, who was stationed at a local military base. They were married July 8, 1942.
They traveled to many military bases during his time in the Army, ending up in Culver City, Calif., where they ran a professional photograph studio serving many Hollywood notables.
They later moved back to Fogelsville, to help her husband's father, Frank J., in the Mohr Orchards business.
She later took great pleasure in developing the Mohrs Hobbyland Luncheonette business, where she got to help many local high school girls get their first jobs.
She was also very active in the Delaware Valley Hobby Association and the Spray Beach Yatch Club of Long Beach Island, N.J.
One of her often quoted accomplishments was winning a target rifle competition at one of the many rod and gun clubs where she and her husband were members and getting her own trophy to put next to all of his winning, but even more so being able to say she out shot her husband.
She returned to her love of horses when they purchased their horse farm, Twinbrook Farms, in Kutztown.
The farm is now operated by their youngest son, Lyle Frank.
Her survivors include sons Donald Miller Jr. and wife, Sandra Lee (Rembold), of Austin, Texas, Robert Clark and wife, Chris (Raffell), of Bangor, and Lyle Frank Mohr and wife, Sue Louise (Balley), of Kutztown, who were the center of her support system; grandchildren Patty Hahn, Cindy Harchar, their mother, Linda (Roth) (Mohr) Klaube, who was a frequent visitor and caregiver at Mosser Nursing Home, Trexlertown, Nicholas, Jaclyn, Frank, and Chayse Mohr; and great-grandchildren, Shannon and Cody Hahn, and Scott and Kelli Harchar; sister Alice Louise (Curtis) Pohlen of Oceanside, Calif.
She was predeceased by her brother, Lyle Hamilton Clark Jr. They were the great-great-great-grandchildren of John and Elizabeth McNutt Hamilton.
