St. Luke's: CIO honored
Allentown resident Chad Brisendine, vice president and chief information officer (CIO) for St. Luke's University Health Network, has been chosen as a recipient of 2013 Lehigh Valley's Forty Over 40 award produced by Lehigh Valley Business. He was selected for possessing authority for decision making within the company/organization and for being committed to making a better work environment by an independent panel of judges from business and organizations in the valley.
Under his leadership, St. Luke's was the first hospital in the L.V. to earn the University Health Network to Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Adoption Model Stage 6 designation, a national indicator of evaluating the progress of hospitals' EMR adoption.
The University of the Incarnate Word, San Antonio, Texas, graduate was previously corporate director for new technology and delivery, CHRISTUS Health system, Texas. He was regional CIO for the system which includes 44 hospitals and facilities in six states and in Mexico.
St. Luke's: Shurman earns accolades
Allentown physician Andrew Shurman, M.D., was recently recognized by the fourth-year class at Temple University School of Medicine to receive the Blockley-Osler Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching. The honor is awarded annually to a physician-member of the faculty who teaches in affiliated hospitals on which Temple medical students rotate.
A graduate of Temple University School of Medicine, he completed his residency in radiology at Albert Einstein Medical Center and his fellowship in Neuroradiology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, both in Philadelphia. He has been teaching radiology to medical students and residents at St. Luke's University Hospital - Bethlehem for the last seven years. His clinical practice focuses on a combination of neuroradiology and diagnostic imaging.
