It hasn't been the type of start that FC LVU Sonic were hoping for to kick off their 2013 NPSL season, but it's also not the end of the world.

The Sonic ended an 0-2 start to the season to the season last week when they knocked off the Pocono Snow 3-0.

The win was overdue for a club that missed six penalty kicks in league play and in open competitions thus far this season. Head coach Dave Weitzman hopes to iron out all the details as his team looks to defend their league crown from a year ago.

"We really just need to get everyone to gel together at this point," said Weitzman. "There's 10 games left, so there's a lot of time in the season. But we certainly have had missed opportunities that we haven't capitalized on."

The Sonic lost to Reading 2-0 in their US Open Cup contest to start the season, which eliminated them from that tournament, which pits every professional club in the United States into an open tournament format against teams from every professional league in US Soccer.

They then lost to Binghamton 2-0 in their NPSL opener and then fell to the Carolina Dynamo 3-2 in penalty kicks in the US Amateur Championship held in North Carolina on May 26.

Weitzman's crew then suffered another 1-0 loss to Reading in their second league contest, missing two penalties in that loss to add to their early struggles.

"The guys are down a little bit, but I think we're all excited to play our first home game [against Pocono]," Weitzman said. "Having two home games [last week], I hope that can start to change the direction of our season."

12 players return from last year's Sonic team, which finished last season as the top ranked team in the country for NPSL and PDL squads, have only lost three league since 2010. To lose their first two contests of 2013 is certainly different territory for the club, but Weitzman knows that his team can rebound.

"If the guys keep playing like they have, we're going to turn things around," he said. "We've been playing good, but we've gotten into some trouble on counters and have had some mental lapses at key moments."
