Catty ball players keeping busy this summer
Rising senior Janae Matos has made the Lehigh Valley Carpenter Cup softball team again.
Janae was chosen as a catcher and first baseman. Janae relishes the chance to be playing in Philadelphia again and performing for college coaches and scouts.
Hannah Edwards, a rising sophomore, had her first two tournaments with Lowersouth Liberty 18U Gold the past two weekends in New Jersey.
"We still do not have a full roster because Pennsbury, Neshaminy, Brandywine are still in the state play-offs," she said.
The Lady Roughie right fielder Hannah did very well, though. In the first weekend she led the team with six hits. This past weekend she was 5-for-7 with three walks. She was on base eight times in 10 at bats. The coaches are very pleased.
"This weekend we are in Columbus, Ohio, in a national qualifier," Edwards added.
On the boys baseball team, Zac Edwards and Carlos Perez were in the Howard Deppe All-Star game last Saturday at Limeport Stadium. Zac won the MVP for his team as he batted 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Carlos competed in the HR competition. He hit one out, but did not place during the hitting contest.
Northampton Legion is 4-1 at the time of Press.
"Randal Pacchioli, a rising senior, and I are playing," Edwards said. "Randal is catching and I'm playing shortstop and second base."
Edwards missed one game due to high school graduation. He is 5-for-9 with four walks, five runs scored and two RBIs.
More Catty kids are playing on Fullerton's Legion team: Tyler Correll, Nate Doria, Brandon Purrone and Zach Stopay. Look for more stories and updates starting next week.
The Catty Press would like to follow the exploits of Roughie players who are playing in summer ball and tournaments. Good Luck Rough Riders and please let us know where you are playing and send information to jdzemba@aol.com.
