Trash hauler strikes line, power disrupted

PRESS PHOTOS BY JIM MARSH

First on the scene to survey the situation on what was dispatched by the Lehigh County 911 as a transformer fire along Washington Avenue and Lincoln Avenue, Western Salisbury Fire Department Chief Joshua Wells arrives June 7 to find a snapped pole (visible in photo), phone, cable and power lines down and an exploded transformer along Washington Avenue, near Eisenhower Avenue. The havoc was allegedly caused by a trash hauling truck that struck a line, short-circuiting the electric power transformer and snapping the pole at Lincoln and Washington. Firefighters put down absorbent "socks" to contain oil leaking from the transformers. Power was disrupted in the surrounding neighborhood.
