SALISBURY TOWNSHIP COMMISSIONERS

Under proposed amendments to the Salisbury Township Dog Ordinance, any person allowing an animal to run at large, if convicted, could pay a fine of $300.

The Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners has been discussing nuisance dogs at recent meetings.

Unleashed dogs have reportedly intimidated students and counselors during township recreation advisory committee summer youth programs at Lindberg Park.

Genny Baillie, township recreation director, has reported to commissioners of encounters with dog owners and their dogs she said have happened at Lindberg during recreation programs.

She said the incidents are unnerving for township youth counselors, township youth and are disruptive to program activities.

Township commissioners held a first reading of the dog ordinance at the May 9 meeting. The May 23 meeting was cancelled.

According to the township website, commissioners are expected to take action on the 21-page proposed dog ordinance, which can be viewed on the township website, at the 7 p.m. June 13 meeting in the municipal building, 2900 S. Pike Ave.

The dog ordinance update includes regulations concerning the duties of the township animal control officer, dogs running at large, dangerous dogs, noise control, the housing of dogs and violations and penalties.

Commissioners are also expected to take action on the township voting redistricting ordinance at the June 13 meeting.
